Oxalis Apothecary

A native of southern Illinois, Oxalis founder Erin Wexstten (she/her), grew up in the woods surrounded by trees, plants and all the sounds and smells of nature. Her small, rural town and home were secluded, enabling her imagination and inciting a passion for roaming the woods and discovering sights untouched and unseen. As a child, she often mistook wild oxalis for a rare four-leaf clover, excitingly bringing them to her parents. These fond memories of discovery and curiosity have guided her creations, with honesty and transparency at their core.

Erin is certified with the School for Herbal and Aromatic Studies in Organic Body Care Products, which is recognized by the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA). She also holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Fashion Design from DAAP, the school of Design, Architecture, Art & Planning at the University of Cincinnati. She has a decade of experience in the fashion industry in NYC, San Francisco and Minneapolis. In her spare time she enjoys baking, traveling, biking and dance parties with her toddler. On most evenings, you can find her relaxing in her garden in New Orleans.

What inspired Oxalis Apothecary?
I’ve been a long-time lover of all things skincare and beauty, dating back to my very early childhood. My mother and grandmother invested in their skin and passed on that importance. Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s meant most of the skincare I was using was from department or drug stores, as clean beauty wasn’t in the mainstream. It was around 2009, when I was twenty-five years old, that I slowly and steadily began overhauling all of my conventional products. This also stirred something up in me as a whole; I felt alive again, excited about these discoveries and learning more and more every year. I’d been designing for the Gap for six years or so, and in 2014 I began dreaming up a business of my own. I decided to become certified in organic body care and aromatherapy to further my education of ingredients and the skin. By June 2015, I launched Oxalis at my favorite neighborhood wine bar around the corner of my apartment in Brooklyn. I quit my full-time design job in November of that year.
