how we started
be. started in June 2020 as an online community sharing women and non-binary people’s stories and advice on new topics weekly. We have covered topics from outer space to body image, creating a diverse and inclusive place for women and non-binary people from all walks of life. In addition to our newsletter, we also launched a podcast in December 2020 with a similar mission, which you can find here.
the be. box story
For us, 2020 was the beginning of a realization. Amid turmoil in the news, our founder Sage looked around and wondered: why does it have to come to this for brands to show up? Why do we have to wait for Breonna Taylor, for a pandemic, and for the wilderness to be burning down for companies to clearly show us what they value?
the be. box was created to help you discover brands that care about racial justice, about sustainability, about LGBTQIA+ communities, about women, about social-good. All year long.
all small business. all she/they founded. at least 40% BIPOC. nothing for free.
We support small female and non-binary founded businesses and creators with fair compensation in addition to the traditional marketing exposure that comes from a subscription box model. We also don't accept any product for free (true story- we have literally turned down free product.)
Each box includes at least 2/5 products from BIPOC founded brands. We carefully and consciously curate each box to include a diverse range of products and founders. We don't claim to be perfect, but we do commit to radical accountability in all areas of our company. We want to make this a safe space where everyone feels accepted and represented.
